hi does anyone know how to fix this. The front of extractor is falling down.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @LisaSeddon. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about fixing a rangehood.
From what you’ve shown, it looks very likely that a fixing on that side has failed. Most extractor canopies have screws that go up through the underside of the front panel into the main chassis to hold that section tight. If one of those screws has rusted through, worked loose, or pulled out of its fixing point, the panel can drop on one side like this.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to be 100 per cent certain from the photos alone, but the fact that the left-hand side is still sitting correctly and the right-hand side isn’t suggests a single fixing point has let go rather than the whole unit failing.
The next step will be a bit of investigation. You’ll need to look underneath the unit and start removing the lower cover or filters so you can see how that front section is attached. Check for missing, loose, or corroded screws on the drooping side and compare it to the side that’s still secure. That will usually tell you exactly what’s gone wrong.
In many cases, the fix is fairly simple, either replacing a failed screw or adding a new fixing through the bottom of that panel and up into the extractor body to pull it back tight. That needs to be done carefully while the unit is supported so you’re not forcing anything or causing further damage.
If you’re unsure or the metalwork looks fatigued or torn, it may be worth having an appliance technician look at it, but I suspect this will come down to a failed or missing screw rather than a major structural issue.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
