Advice on locating a possum

the bedroom floor is polished cypress pine floorboards. the ceiling of the room underneath is gyprock. there are no openings in the floorboards or the ceiling and I am thinking the best way to confirm what is in there is using an inspection camera. it is possible there might be a slit opening in one side of this "ceiling space" ...and I could get a camera in there.

I am looking for any recommendations about which camera to buy and or is there a better way. I can't find any entry point so can only think the possum /whatever is in there,  gets in via the roof and then comes down to this space via a stud wall cavity that permits entry.

Re: Advice on locating a possum

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @clivem. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about locating possums.

It sounds like it might be worth contacting a professional to assist with locating and removing the possum. Inevitably, you'll need a licensed professional to trap and remove the possum, so you might as well contact one now, at least for a quote. I suggest a professional because they will find the location of where the vermin or possums are entering the ceiling space. It's likely a misplaced tile or eave lining/fascia that's been chewed through. They'll then be able to trap the possum when it leaves at night, patch the entry point and then re-locate the possum elsewhere.

The camera sounds like a great idea, and the best source would be online. There are myriads of small endoscope style cameras that could be used for this purpose. However, the only thing this will determine is whether it's rats or possums. It would be great if it were rodents, as you could trap or poison them yourself. If you find out it's a possum, you are back to calling a professional.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
