How to fix gap in floor

I have this gap in the doorway between carpets exposing the slab. How can I neatly cover it.

Re: How to fix gap in floor

Hi @ELI5,

Typically, you would use a floor trim such as this Roberts 32mm x 1.65m Pewter Hammered Cover Strip Trim or a cover strip like these Roberts 80mm x 3.3m Aluminium Cover Strips to cover a transition like this.

It's a fairly wide gap, so we'll need to ensure the trim we select is wide enough to cover the gap.

Can you advise how wide the gap between the two carpet surfaces is?

Once you can advise, I can have a look at the trims we have and help you with a solution.

Re: How to fix gap in floor

Hi @ELI5,

Unfortunately, I've been unable to locate a flooring trim that is capable of spanning that gap.

You may have to speak with a flooring contractor to see if they can install a custom trim that spans the gap between the different pieces of carpet.

Allow me to tag @Nailbag, @Dave-1 and @AlanM52 to see if they have any other ideas.

Good Afternoon @ELI5

I cant think of any plate that would span that distance without it standing higher then your carpet.

You could go to a carpet installer and see if you can find some carpet tiles that come close to matching the carpet either side of the strip. I suggest carpet tiles as I find that their profile is lower then carpet carpet

I bought a bunch of old carpet tiles for my garage redo and noticed that they tend to have a lot of offcuts and removed tiles about. You should be able to find one in your local light industrial area.

Re: How to fix gap in floor

Hi @ELI5

I had a smaller but similar issue I needed to rectify after removing a wall. I fortunately had an offset of carpet and called in a carpet repairer. He lifted the carpet in that area, tapped and glued the patch. Then re-stretched the carpet into place and trimmed it off. Though I could see the patch, nobody else could. Super impressed.
