How to install hybird flooring with two-way locking system?

Hi Bunnings community,

I recently grabbed  some 7mm hybird flooring and started DIY.

First row (board 1) went down sweet as,, no dramas at all.

But when I got to the second row, I couldn’t get boards 2 and 3 to lock in properly because of those angle locks on both the long and short edges. So, I’d get the long edge of board 3 locked into board 1, then give the end a tap with the block, but there’s always a gap left between boards 2 and 3.

How can we handle this two-way locking system?

Cheers

Re: How to install hybird flooring with two-way locking system?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @christopherdew. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing hybrid flooring.

When you tap the end of board three, does it shift at all towards board two? Provided the tongues of boards two and three are aligned, then you should be able to tap the board into place as shown in this guide: How to lay laminate flooring.

The only reason I can think of for the boards not connecting easily is that the first board is not flat. If it's slightly angled, then the lock between it and boards two and three can be quite tight, resisting your tapping board three into place. Perhaps you might like to move to another position on the floor and see if the issue persists.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Mitchell for your prompt response.

Yes the block 3 can slide to the block 2, but it just won’t lock in properly.

Row one’s all good—can't see any gaps, even tried redoing it, but still no luck.

Re: How to install hybird flooring with two-way locking system?

When you say it won't lock in properly, @christopherdew, is it that no matter how hard you tap the end of it, the gap won't close? If so, there must be something preventing it from sliding into place. Have you tried another board to see if it has the same issue? Could you take a look at the tongue on the end of boards two and three and see if they are damaged, preventing them from sliding together? Have any other boards successfully locked together on their ends for you in row two?
