How to remove the stuck door latch?

Hi all,

I would like your urgent help to remove the stuck door latch of a bedroom door. We have a Bunnings Ikonic Brushed Nickel Norr Passage Lever set.

It is only a few years old. Last night when turn the door lever, the door didn't open and the latch doesn't retract. I removed the handle, rose and spindle and tried a few methods, but nothing work. I have looked up on Youtube to get help. I have spent a few hours already trying different methods, but nothing work.

See attached pictures.

I would really like help.

Thanks,

Amy

Re: How to remove the stuck door latch and open the door?

Hello @AmyC

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your door latch.

I've placed an image below that shows you to insert a screwdriver into the center slot of the latch. I propose pushing that slot to the left, once it is in the left position use the square axle of the door knob to try and turn the latch and see if it will engage. If it fails to operate, my second suggestion is to use a cake icing knife and slide it in the gap to push the latch open and thereby allowing you to pull the door open. Last resort is to knock the pins out of the hinges and open from that side.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
