Hi, I have some paint flaking off (after restumping) and want to paint over this textured paint so it's a smooth finish. Do i need to sand and then use something like Gyprock? Thanks
Hello @kstroll
I propose using a detail sander with 180grit sandpaper to remove the textured surface, I then suggest finishing off with a 240grit for a nice smooth finish. Please make sure to clean the surface of sanding dust before you begin repainting the panel. There is no need to use Gyprock unless the raised features are very hard to remove or will refuse to budge.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Hi @kstroll,
I just wanted to warn you and other visitors to this discussion before you proceed with sanding that asbestos is very commonly found in homes in Australia and New Zealand, and we would always recommend you testing before proceeding for your health and safety.
The Australian Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency asbestossafety.gov.au has a range of resources to be asbestos safe.
Here is a previous discussion that is relevant: How to deal with textured walls that contain asbestos?
Thanks,
Jason
