How to reduce outside noise from the window. Without spending too much on double glazing.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Tk1. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about window noise reduction.
Do you own the property? That might help guide our members in suggesting solutions that suit your situation. It would also be great if you could upload a photo of the window so we can get a better idea of its type — I can assist you with uploading an image if you need help.
Ultimately, double-glazing will give you the best results, so if the noise is a significant issue, it might be worth considering the additional expense. In the meantime, there are some budget-friendly options you could try. Adding a layer of clear polycarbonate to the window frame can help, but it needs to be sealed airtight to be effective, which will restrict access to opening the window. You could also seal any gaps around the frame with weatherstripping or sealant to reduce sound leakage, or use heavy curtains.

What kind of noise are you trying to block out — traffic, neighbours, or something else?
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you, Mitchell. I got mostly sensitive sleep :). And particularly early morning birds and vehicle noise breaks it ![]()
