and having trouble getting the yellow look. If someone could advise me how to achieve the look in the attached photo I got got from "ghostwriter" barn build project that would be great. I'm in Sydney.

Re: How do you mix sandstone coloured motar?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Gav1. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating coloured mortar.

One of the main issues you’ll encounter is that standard cement and mortar mixes are grey, so adding yellow oxide to them will only result in a darker, muddier colour than what you’re aiming for. To achieve that light sandstone tone, you’ll need to start with white cement instead. A good mix would be one part white cement, one part hydrated lime and six parts yellow brickie’s sand. From there, you can gradually add small amounts of yellow or sandstone coloured oxide until you reach the desired shade. Starting with a white base makes it much easier to produce that lighter, warm sandstone colour, whereas trying to lighten a grey mortar simply won’t achieve the same result.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @Gav1,

The last time I did a job like that for a family friend I simply used:
