How to adjust gutter slope?

I’ve recently had my timber house with timber stumps levelled. This has resulted in the gutters now not allowing flow to the drainpipes leading to water tank. I have gutters with clips and 3 inch nails pinning the clips. Best way to adjust please.

Re: adjust gutter slope

Hello @mick30

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your gutter.

One quick way to determine the fall of your gutter is to place a spirit level on its surface, another method is to run a bit of water in the gutter to see where the water stops and pools. This will tell you which clip needs bending and lowering to create the necessary fall. If adjusting the clips is not enough to create the necessary fall, it may be necessary to remove some of the nails and repositioning them.

Due to the extent of the adjustment necessary, I suggest engaging the services of a professional. Adjusting gutter fall requires precise measurements and calculations to ensure proper drainage and avoid pooling water. Professionals have the tools and expertise to do this accurately. Different gutter types (e.g., box gutters, valley gutters) have specific installation requirements and adjustments. Plus, working on a roof can be dangerous. Professionals are equipped and trained to handle the job safely.

Correctly adjusted gutters prevent issues like overflow, water damage, and potential structural problems. While professional services have a cost, the long-term cost of fixing gutter problems or potential damage can be significantly higher. Roofs with multiple pitches, valleys, or dormers can be challenging to adjust correctly, therefore large adjustments to the gutter slope can require removing and reinstalling the gutter system, which is best left to professionals.

However, should you decide to have a look at the state of your gutters, I suggest having a quick look at this safety guide - How to use ladders safely by @Adam_W.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
