How to build a bridge or walkway?

Note the tape from gravel to embankmentNote the tape from gravel to embankment

Have just moved into a rural property and need to build an angled walkway or bridge over a culvert that leads to a shed currently holding horse feed. Length is only 4 metres.

Looking for advice and/or measurements for timber sides/rails and cross pieces and mesh type flooring.

Thinking of using 4.2m x 190 x 45mm Outdoor Framing Treated Pine for sides/rails and for the cross pieces 90 x 45mm Outdoor Framing Treated Pine

Looking at Matrix 1200 x 400 x 40 Fast floor panels, doubled so walkway is 800 wide.

Cheers.

Re: Build a bridge/walkway

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Buildabridge. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about building a bridge.

I've created the below renders to give you an idea of how you could construct this bridge. Please remember that the Matrix panels are not designed for walkways at height. If you are to use them, I suggest having your 90 x 45mm timber support them adequately at their mid-joins and where the panels meet along the length of your bridge. This means that at every point where you've clipped the panels together, they need to rest on top of supporting timber.

190 x 45mm for the side rails sounds about right, but you might consider installing some midway posts that are concreted into the embankment.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
