How to build a cat enclosure?

Hi guys, I'm looking for some ideas on building a free-standing cat enclosure in my backyard.

I was thinking of 2m wide x 5m long and tall enough for me to walk in through an entry door.

I would also like to build a shelter at one end  for the cat to sleep in.

Suggestions on building materials would be great .

What type of mesh would I need for outdoor area ?

Also would like to add cat hammocks and sky walks if possible.

Re: DIY cat enclosure

Hello @Kim1969

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about a cat enclosure.

This topic has been discussed quite few times, and I suggest having a look at this one - Solved: What timber would be best for a cat enclosure by @fionafog. There are specific materials suggested in order to build the cat enclosure. In regards to the mesh I suggest looking at the Jack 90cm x 30m 25 x 25mm Cage Mesh or similar. As to the amenities inside, there are no limits to what you can put in for your cats and that includes a cat hammock. The paths, walkways and lookout features can all be incorporated into your build like adding shelves in the house. If you are handy with a sewing machine building and installing a cat hammock should not be too difficult. The ends or hammock ropes can be screwed on to the walkways depending on your design.

Thankyou Eric . I will try this design.

Do you have any ideas for the sleeping box materials ?

I would like to have it at one end .

Also an entry door for me ?

Re: DIY cat enclosure

Hi @Kim1969,

The sleeping box could be constructed with plywood, provided you painted it for protection from the elements. An entry door can certainly be added to the design. It's not much more complicated than creating a framework, just hinges need to be added for access. Here's a rendering I created of a simplistic timber-constructed cat enclosure.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
