Hey All,
First time poster so please be kind.
I need some ideas on what to put down to make the path around our house usable, its a new build so it has sand and Panel and Steel posts for retaining.
Would you suggest paving, decking, graveling, etc.
Also what do I do with the steel posts that are sticking out in the pathway? Cut them so they don't come in the way?
Thanks. What to do with the steel circled in blue?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @VJD. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a pathway.
One of the simplest and most cost-effective options would be to hire a compactor, level and compact the area, lay weed matting and then lay pavers down the centre as stepping stones, as you've done in your images. Once the pavers are in place, you can fill around them with pebbles or gravel.
Using gravel around the pavers has a couple of big advantages — it allows water to easily drain away, helping to prevent pooling or erosion, and it’s far more forgiving to install than a full paved path. Another benefit is that you can simply spread the gravel around the steel posts without needing to cut or adjust them, so they won’t interfere with the pathway’s usability. This style of path can also be updated or changed over time without too much hassle, making it a great first project for a new build.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi,
Thanks for the info so far has been helpful.
In our rental we had gravel with weed mat, but still had a lot of weeds growing. Is there a correct way to lay the gravel to stop this?
Thanks
Weeds are very tenacious @VJD, and even with the weed matting preventing them from growing up beneath, seeds will still germinate in the gravel itself. My best advice is to spray the gravel down with Yates 1L Path Weeder Concentrate every twelve months using a garden sprayer. This product sticks aroud in the gravel for up to twelve months and helps prevent weeds growing.
