How to build a timber arch in backyard?

Hi,

I would like to make a timber arch in backyard, something similar to the image below.

Is there any detailed instruction i can follow? What could be the maximum width i could go?

Any advice is much appreciated

Re: build a timber arch in backyard

Hi @dogbural,

Did you want to hang egg chairs on it as in the inspiration image, or were you just looking for an aesthetical arbour? You might like to check out this step-by-step guide: How to build a D.I.Y. timber garden arbour. If you wanted something more structural to hang seating off, I'd suggest you'd need to use more substantial materials like 88 x 88mm posts for the uprights and bracing, 140 x 45mm cross beams and 90 x 45mm batons. I've created a rendering below to illustrate. The maximum width would be determined by the calibre of the crossbeams. At 140 x 45mm, you should be able to achieve a span of two metres.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
