How to build low height composite decking?

Hi,

I have a backyard with concrete next to the tiles. The concrete has slope making it not usable enough.

I wish to put a composite deck with aluminium subframe on it to level it to the tiles. Photos shared.

Well the tiles and concrete has only 27mm difference in height at one side.

I am wondering if I can build a deck with height of 27mm on one side and around 320mm on the other side.

I know minimum recommended height is 50mm but is it ok to screw the composite boards directly to the concrete with some thin bushes below them to allow water drainage?

Thanks in advance.

Re: super low height composite decking

Hello @abvdy

Thanks for sharing your question about composite decking. Having the composite decking right next to the floor even with a small gap is not advised. Moisture will get trapped underneath the panel and the consequences are unpredictable. It is difficult to predict what the effect will be on the composite decking, but we can be sure it will be a negative one. It would be best to have the decking panels a fair distance from the floor or what the manufacturer has advised.

I am not familiar with aluminium deck framing, I suggest speaking to the manufacturer of your frame and asking if the frame can have extended legs to accommodate that slope that goes down to 320mm. I also propose thinking about covering the entire area with the frame rather than the just the concrete section. In this manner you won't have to worry about matching up to the tiled floor.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Thanks Eric.

Yes looks like decking entire area is another option on my mind too. The tiles are good so was thinking to keep them as is.

Hello @abvdy

My best advice is to do some hyper accurate measurements to see if your choice of framing and Ekodeck decking panels will work for your area.
