How to build timber awning with Colorbond roof?

I am aiming to build an awning down the side of my house, using timber frame and colorbond roof similar to the design below. When looking at pergolas supported on multiple sides I know I can use the timber span tables for assistance choosing timber sizes and spacing etc. but I wasn't sure how to translate to this style design or find any other supporting information online. In addition , because it is going over wide door opening, I would like the vertical support angling back down to the side of the house to be as low as angle as possible so it doesn't need to be really high above the doorway.  For context  the length along the house will be up to 6m long, and ideally would like it coming out 1-1.2m from the house.  Is there any resourses or assistance can providing to help me put together suitable design?

Re: How to build timber awning with Colorbond roof?

Hi @Nebin,

I'd love to be able to give you some guidance on this project, but the truth is, while the structure may look simple, the physics involved are actually pretty complex. This is why you are struggling to find any easy-to-use information, like the stuff that is available for pergolas and decks.

Unfortunately, because of the complex physics involved and the fact that it is entirely relying on the wall for support, this is something you would need to speak with an engineer for assistance with. They will be able to advise firstly, whether the wall is capable of supporting the awning, and secondly, on materials and a suitable design that you can build.

Apologies that I couldn't be more help with this one. I really would love to be able to help, but unfortunately, it is beyond my knowledge.

You might like to have a look at our Outdoor Window Awnings as potential alternatives.
