How to calculate how much lattice to purchase?

How to calculate how much lattice to purchase?

I want to install plastic lattice work on 2 decks around the house [to prevent dogs going over the side - existing railings are not up to spec]

I need 84' total of lattice which is 2560cm.

Lattice is 1800cm height, 900cm width

I would cut lattice into 3 sections of 600cm to use

Question :  how much lattice should I buy?

If you can assist me I would be very grateful.

Re: measuring lattice to purchase

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kyehos. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about lattice.

The lattice would be more than likely 1800 x 900 millimetres, not centimetres. So, if you cut that into three pieces, the individual pieces will be 600 x 900mm.

You can work out the number of lattice sheets you'll need by dividing 2560cm by 90cm, which is 28.4 let's call it 29. Divide 29 by three (as you get three panels per lattice sheet), and you get 9.6. Rounded up, you'd need 10 lattice sheets.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Re: measuring lattice to purchase

Thank you Mitchell.    Very appreciative.   15 sheets of lattice at $40 each is $600.

Too expensive for what I need.

There is a bamboo lattice at $29 measuring 1800mm x 600mm.    If I turned the

lattice around so the 1800mm is the length and 600mm is the width, I should get

a better cost ratio.     Do you agree?

Re: measuring lattice to purchase

I've had to reconsider because $600 for 15 sheets of lattice is too much.

There is a bamboo lattice at $29 measuring 1800mm x 600mm.    If I turned the

lattice around so the 1800mm is the length and 600mm is the width, I should get

a better cost ratio.     Do you agree?

Re: measuring lattice to purchase

Hi @kyehos,

I apologise. I've just realised that I gave you the wrong equation as you are placing your 900 x 600mm panels on the 900mm edge, so they are 600mm high.

I've amended my comment above as you'll only need ten sheets totally. 10 x 3 panels = 30 panels. 30 x 90cm = 2700cm.

Sorry about that.

Re: measuring lattice to purchase

@kyehos,

Working off ten sheets, both sized lattices appear to end up around $400. You'd undoubtedly be better off with the 1800 x 600 and laying them down on the 1800 side instead of cutting all the sheets up to suit.
