How to caulk balcony tiles?

We have a tiled balcony and some of the caulking around the edges has started to split. What type of caulk should be used on a balcony? The one that is currently there appears to be the same one used in our bathroom, but I wasn't sure what what should be used for indoors vs outdoors. Preferably if we can get something slate grey that would be great! I believe I will need to remove the existing material, clean it and then apply a new bead?

Re: Caulking Balcony Tiles

Hello @Joshuam08

You are correct, the old caulking will need to be removed in order to put in a new sealer. I suggest using a Trojan Safety Scraper With 5 Blades to remove the old caulking in combination with DIGGERS 1L Methylated Spirits to clean the surface. I suggest using Sika 310ml Grey Concrete Sikaflex Pro+ Polyurethane Sealant to seal the gap.

Here is a handy guide that will help: How To Silicone Seal A Bath (the techniques used are applicable to your project)

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Caulking Balcony Tiles

Forgot to check on this for an update! Would Selly's Roof and Gutter Silicone also be suitable for the job?

Re: Caulking Balcony Tiles

Hi @Joshuam08,

Selleys 310g Translucent Roof And Gutter Silicone Sealant is ideal for repairing leaks in most forms of roofing and guttering. For tiles, it's best to use a product that is designed more for that purpose. Sika 310ml Grey Concrete Sikaflex Pro+ Polyurethane Sealant is specifically designed for gaps around tiles, and I feel it would be the best choice for your project.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Re: Caulking Balcony Tiles

Thanks for the reply! Happy to use that, I just wanted to check as it almost looks like the same silicon that was used in my bathroom was used outside and I thought it looked more like silicone than poly. Here’s a pic of the area but happy to use that if it’s the best option!
