Hi we’ve had our outdoor deck installed for about 8 months now but is looking really muddy and soiled with the dust already. The wood we’ve used is Vitex and have oiled the top after installing. Have tried using soap and wash it with water but hasn’t helped much.
cheers,
Karan
Hi @KSB,
You might like to share some images with us so we can better understand the condition. If it's about due for oiling, you can use Cabot's Deck Clean to remove buildup and clean the deck, which preps it for oiling.
Here's a helpful guide: How to oil your deck.
Mitchell
Hi Mitch many thanks for your reply. It’s only been about 8 months since it was oiled so I doubt if it would require re oiling. But PFA the photos for your opinion.
Hello @KSB
Your second photo appears to show an uneven application of oil stain on the surface of your deck. Some portions appear to be dark others light with a clear distinction between brush strokes applied to the surface. For cleaning purposes, I suggest using the Cabot's Deck Clean as suggested by Mitch. Otherwise, I propose sanding the surface and reapplying the oil on the decking surface. It's possible that the oil on the surface of the deck has faded away at a much faster rate due to the environmental conditions present outside.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi Eric was my first attempt at Oil application on the deck so the uneven application. Would the Cabot’s Deck clean remove the previously applied oil or just remove the Dust/soil that’s stuck over it?
Also is there a way to have the oil applied on the sides of the planks In between gaps?
Cheers,
Karan
Hello @KSB
The Cabot's Deck clean will only clean the surface of your deck. If you oil the deck unsanded it will not get absorbed properly and you will end up with an uneven finish on your deck. I'm sorry but I am unaware of a technique to paint between the decking panels.
