How to fix holes in Corrugated Polycarbonate sheets?

Hi all, just wondering if I can get some advice on how to fix these polycarbonate roof sheets damaged in a recent hail storm:

I know that the best long term repair would be to replace them but I am going to be redoing this pergola (hopefully) in not too distant future so I am not keen to replace them as it would require removing all the metal sheets as well as there is an overlap. Just looking for some cheap fix that would last a year or two.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: How to fix holes in Corrugated Polycarbonate sheets

Hello @tom138

Thank you for sharing your question about fixing your polycarbonate roofing. I propose patching it with Fastfix 100mm x 5m Aluminium Waterproof Repair Tape - Bunnings. My best advice is to clean the surround area of the damaged section with DIGGERS 125ml Isopropyl Alcohol - 125ml and a clean rag. This will remove any grease or oil deposit on the surface of the poly carbonate sheet. Once the surface is dry apply a section of the tape over the damaged area making sure to cover any cracks along the sheet. For extra protection apply a bead of Selleys 290mL Grey Storm Sealant on the edge of the tape for a totally secure seal.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Hi @tom138,

For that I repair the poly roofing with pieces of poly roofing and silicone.

You will need a roofing sheet with the same profile that hopefully matches.

Cut a larger piece with the same profile to cover the area.

Clean the area and run a silicone bead around.

Feather the edges to encourage the water too keep flowing.

Cheers

Thanks @AlanM52 @and @EricL for the great advise. I actually have some of this tape lying around so I’ll try that first and if it doesn’t last, try to patch using a new sheet

Re: How to fix holes in Corrugated Polycarbonate sheets?

Hi @tom138,

Love @AlanM52's idea of patching with another sheet. If you need to purchase a new sheet to make these patches, it might be worth replacing the sheet entirely instead of repairing it. That probably wouldn't take much more effort, and you only need to remove the screws holding it in position.

Since that would involve getting on the roof, here's a helpful guide on How to use ladders safely. If you're not confident, please enlist the services of a professional to complete the job.

CC: @tom138,

That's true... I assumed there was more roofing damage.

Cheers
