How to fix textured paint on house exterior?

Hi all, we have a textured paint over plaster on the out side walls of our house. Some of the plaster has fallen off and needs to be replaced. So therefore so does the textured paint. I would love to hear how to fix the plaster and any suggestions for the paint. Ty

Good Afternoon @judib

Welcome to the Bunnings community, there have been a few people asking similar styled questions so hopefully we can help you out

A few photos would help a long way as to what steps to recomend for the repair/replacement of your plaster.

A stepped back one (overall shot)

Close up one showing the edges that fallen off.

Will wait for the pics

Re: How to fix textured paint on house exterior?

Hi @judib,

Thank you for those photos, they help us see what we're working with much better.

You should start by removing any of the bubbling paint using a paint scraper. Keep peeling it back until you have a relatively clean edge with no more delaminating paint. Make sure you keep a piece so you can take it in store to get it colour matched.

If there is particularly crumbly render, it would also be worth removing at this stage. You can use your paint scraper, or a flathead screwdriver to dig out the crumbling render.

Once the paint and crumbly render have been removed, you can use @Nailbag's guide for How to repair a rendered wall to patch the render.

When the render has been repaired and it has been given sufficient time to cure, you can apply your Textured Paint over the top.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi @judib

@JacobZ already provided some excellent advice. I would just add using a wire brush to remove some of the larger damaged areas, which is also a good tool to use lightly to feather out where the flaking stops..
