How to install a side gate post?
Iām wanting to build and instal a side gate to replace old ill- fitting one. Fence is not really strong enough to attach post to. Wanting to know how deep to put new post in and what dimension timber to use.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Reachforthesky. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing a post.
For your new side gate, I recommend using a 90 x 90mm, 2.4m Post F7 H4 Treated Pine Premium KD. To ensure stability, if the post will be 1800mm above ground, sink the post at least 600mm into the ground as the common rule is that 1/3 of the post should be below ground. For the concrete footer, aim for dimensions of 400 x 400 x 600mm deep to give the post a solid foundation. This setup will provide the support needed for a secure and functional gate.
