Hello All - I recently removed a number of hedges around the pool as they were always keeping the pool dirty. Looking for some advice now on how to paint the fences (both wooden and colorbond steel). Is there anything in special that I need to do before painting? What kind of paint to buy?
Hi @khatriy,
The main thing with both types of fences is to make sure they are clean and dry before painting. Outside of this, the process is straight forward as long as you select the correct paint.
My colleagues @EricL and @MitchellMc have provided advice in How to paint a Colorbond fence which you can use for the Colorbond fence.
The timber fence is a bit less in depth. Just give it a good scrub with some soapy water and an Oates Long Handle Deck Scrub Brush, then paint it with 2-3 coats of your choice of exterior paint or premixed fencing paint. These paints are self-priming, so as long as the surface is clean, there's no need for any other products.
You could use a paint brush and paint roller or if you'd like to speed through the job, a paint sprayer will make light work of it. Check out How To Spray Paint A Fence and How do you spray paint a fence? for some guidance on using a paint sprayer.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
