Hi

I would like to know how to fix broken concrete around the post as shown in the photos which is under tiles and wondering why it cracked and is it an expensive exercise.  Thank you.

Re: how to repair broken concrete floor

Hello @Cathy001

Thanks for sharing your question about your concrete floor. There are a number of possible reasons why the concrete broke apart, soil movement, water ingress the pole has started to lean or a combination of all three. There is also the factor that the concrete surrounding the post is not that thick and any movement would have stressed it causing it to break apart.

In order to restore the concrete base, I suggest digging slightly deeper so that you can put in more concrete. I recommend building formwork around the post to hold the new concrete in place. Please remember to level the concrete to the same height as the existing concrete base. My best advice is to give the concrete enough time to fully cure before putting the tile back on the surface.

The formwork can be built out of timber offcuts and a few screws or nails. A bag of Dingo 10kg Concrete Mix will be more than enough to fill the damage on your floor. You'll also need a Trojan 150mm Pointing Trowel to mix and flatten the concrete surface.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
