How to repair carport roof diagonal supports?

I can see a long roof support in my carport that looks like it might be coming away, it's possibly dropped a little. All the other timber joins are right angled and have metal brackets for support but this one that runs at a diagonal looks to only have been nailed in. These photos might not be the clearest but you can see some gaps have formed and I'm not sure if I need to provide some extra support for this timber by way of a bracket or something? Given it's not a right angle a lot of the ready made brackets are out- would something like this bent to the correct angle then fixed at either end provide good support? https://www.bunnings.com.au/carinya-200-x-100-x-1mm-galvanised-flat-plate-make-a-bracket_p3975858 . Thanks!511A0018-C022-41DD-B391-D8FD1DED436F.JPGD96C08CA-2FB4-4273-B16E-C049700F65C2.JPG

Re: How to repair carport roof diagonal supports?

Hello @Jen28

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your carport roof framing.

It does appear that the diagonal support has come away and dropped down a bit. I'm afraid the Carinya 200 x 100 x 1mm Galvanised Flat Plate Make-A-Bracket will not be sufficient to repair your timber support. Due to its structural nature, I would recommend engaging the services of a builder to repair and re-anchor the diagonal support. This will cover you insurance wise as the repair was done by a registered builder.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @AlanM52 for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to repair carport roof diagonal supports?

Good Evening @Jen28

It does appear to have dropped a little. I would recommend not to attempt this repair by yourself. I would get a carpenter or builder in to repair it properly.

I had a dip in my loungeroom floor / Garage ceiling due to teh way the flooring was built back in the 60's. I "knew" what I should do but no way did I know "What" really needed to be done. I was lucky to get my carpenter mate in and I was the labourer but wow to the amount of effort and underlying knowledge he had. It really underlines why there are trades compared to home handy people. The project is in here if you want to have a look, its under my bookmarks
