How to replace clothesline drilled into brick wall?

I need to replace my courtyard clothesline which is drilled into the brickwork of a raised garden approx 70cm high. Should an Austral Accessory Ground Mount Kit I/N:4510538, which will then have the Austral Fold Down line I/N: 4510525 attached support setup in this way?

Appreciate any assurance before orderingExisting line mountExisting line mount

Re: Replace clothesline in courtyard

Hello @sonofdad

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your clothesline.

Due to the size of the Austral 28.5m Classic Cream Standard Fold Down Clothesline and the possible load that will be going on such a large clothesline I'm afraid the brickwork will not be enough to hold the weight of your new clothesline. I propose removing some of the brick pavers and digging a proper footing for the Austral 2.4m Classic Cream Fold Down Clothesline Accessory Ground Mount Kit. Once it has been concreted in the pavers can be put back and the paver for the post of course will need to be modified to accept the post in the ground.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: Replace clothesline in courtyard

Thanks for the feedback though I find it confusing the existing line has very close dimensions and has been in place +25 years are Austral lines overly heavy? I'd imagine a fair amount of pavers would need removing to cement in place and then the supports aren't going to be flush with the brick work, also the question of getting the pavers back in place successfully without damaging and having to redo the entire courtyard

Re: How to replace clothesline drilled into brick wall?

Hi @sonofdad,

The Austral clotheslines can be wall-mounted without a kit, or ground-mounted with the posts concreted into the ground. There is no setup for the posts to be mounted to a retaining wall as per your layout. In saying that, it's entirely up to you whether you'd like to bolt the posts to the wall instead of concreting them in.

The posts are perfectly capable of holding the weight; the only concern would be whether they'd be compromised by drilling through them or whether your wall could support the weight. As you mention, if it is a similar size to the old line, then you'd imagine similar results. As this is a non-standard installation, it's not something we could recommend.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
