Hello
I'd like suggestions on 2 options please.
Would Bunnings be able to supply an all aluminium fence to suit these dimensions - 200 X 120? My fence doesn't look like this anymore as I've been chipping away at the rotted parts. I'd prefer all aluminium - any styling would be OK. Depending on cost a full aluminium replacement would be my preferred option.
Alternatively, how difficult would it be to break up the existing rotted fence palings & one support post with a pry / wrecking bar so I can just replace these individual palings with a more durable hard timber? If I can do this, how are the new timber fence palings attached - what kind of screws / nails etc? I have a Ryobi One drill.
Thank you.
Hi @LorenClayton,
The ProtectorAl 2000 x 1766mm Black Aluminium Slat Screen Kit would be an option here. It's 566mm higher than required, but could be cut down to suit the exact size.
Alternatively, if you were to pull the whole fence apart and reconstruct it, it would be around $125 to rebuild in Treated Pine decking or $165 to construct it from Merbau hardwood decking.
It should be relatively easy to break up the timber, though it might be more efficient to look for the screws attaching it to the steel posts. The screws are what will give you the most grief, as they'll need to be undone. The new slats can be attached to the posts with self-tapping screws. The timber slats will need to be pre-drilled at the fixing spots before the self-tapping screws are used through them into the posts.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
