How to treat exposed rebar after cutting concrete slab?

Recently cut a section from our outdoor pool area slab.  Didn't think that about the rebar being exposed.  After some rain have noticed slight rusting.

What is the best way to treat this so it doesn't turn into a problem?

Re: How to treat exposed rebar after cutting concrete slab

Hi @dant,

Rebar will rust whether it’s exposed or embedded within concrete, but exposed sections are more vulnerable to accelerated corrosion. To prevent this from becoming a problem, it’s best to treat the exposed rebar with a rust converter, which stabilises the rust and prevents further deterioration. After applying the converter, you can touch up the area with a white epoxy enamel paint to seal and protect the metal.

Just be careful to apply the rust converter only on the metal itself, as it can stain the edge of your concrete slab if it comes into contact with it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
