Hi, just making some trellis for my garden. Should I be painting this timber to make it last longer or because it is treated it is not needed.
Thanks.

Re: Should yhus timber be painted?

Hi @koshie,

That timber is H2 termite treated timber used for internal framing purposes. If you were to use it outside, it would definitely need to be coated with exterior paint.

H3 framing timber is suitable for exterior above ground use and can be left unpainted.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Should yhus timber be painted?

Since I have already made it I will paint it. Silly me. Should have done some asking before I started. Hopefully the paint will lengthen it’s life.

Thank you very much.

Re: Should yhus timber be painted?

@koshie,

Please give them a good couple of coats of paint, making sure to cover the timber completely. That should add a few years onto the timber's lifespan.
