Best sealant for a metal chimney?

IMG_1891.png

Hi,

I have a metal chimney passing up through a metal roof with a what what appears to a

EPDM Rooftites type product fitted and sealed. The sealant looks like it needs replacing, what sealant/silcone products are best to use in this application?

Cheers,

Brent.

Re: Best sealant for a metal chimney

Hi @brent22,

For this application, I would suggest using Sikaflex 11FC Purform. It is a high-quality, general-use sealant that is designed for use in exterior applications that experience harsh weather conditions.

Before application, make sure you give the surfaces that require sealing a good clean to remove any dirt or grime that could affect adhesion. Warm water and dish soap with a scrubbing brush will do the trick.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Best sealant for a metal chimney

Hi @brent22

Will the sealant actually contact the chimney or the surrounding plate because if it comes into contact with the actual chimney, it needs to be fire rated.

I had a pot belly stove some years ago and have seen the chimney glow red with the heat and unless the sealant is appropriately rated, you could br creating a fire hazzard. Maybe use something like this...
