Hello,
Had a dryer against this wall, its really in need of repair, also has a reasonably big sized hole. I've looked at repair patches to fix it. Is that the best way? Is there another option? Thanks all
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @larniathompson. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing plasterboard.
For a damaged section that size, a simple patch likely won’t give you the best result. Instead, you’ll want to cut a clean rectangle around the damaged area to remove it completely. If there are timber studs behind the wall where you’ve cut, that’s ideal—you can screw your new piece directly into them. If not, you’ll need to glue or screw in some timber supports behind the plasterboard to give you something solid to attach the repair panel to.
Once you’ve cut your new piece of plasterboard to size, fit it into the hole and screw it into the studs or the timber supports. Use plasterboard joining tape around the edges, then cover the area with a plaster compound to blend it in. After it dries, sand it smooth and flush with the rest of the wall. Finish it off with an undercoat and a topcoat of paint, and it’ll be as good as new.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
