Hi,
I want to install downlights for the whole place.
Just wondering:
- how many downlights for each area and how many WATTS
- what sort of exhaust fan/heater for bathrooms and laundry including the watts. (any recommendations?)
Hi @sammyla,
Unfortunately, I can only offer general advice. For a more structured plan, it would be best to contact a lighting specialist and an electrician, as they will be able to assess the specifics of your home and ensure that their solution is viable for installation in your home.
As a general guide, one downlight is recommended for every 1.5 to 2 square metres of floor space. For example, your living room, at roughly 30 square metres, may require up to 15 downlights for even, ambient coverage. This can vary depending on ceiling height, wall colour, natural light, and the desired brightness level, so it is hard to say from a plan exactly how many downlights you'd need in each room, but this should give you an idea. Generally, something in the 9–11W range will work for most areas. Tricolour downlights are also worth considering as they give you options in terms of the spectrum of light that they produce.
For bathrooms, the best option is a 3-in-1 unit that has a fan, heat lamps, and a light all in one. Some good options include the IXL Tastic Sensation 3 In 1 Bathroom Heat Fan Light, HPM 3 In 1 Exhaust Fan Heat LED Light With 4 Instant Heat lamps and Click 3-In-1 Bathroom Heat Lamp.
For your laundry, a combination of downlights and an exhaust fan capable of moving around 300-350 cubic metres of air per hour, such as this Arlec 250mm White Exhaust Fan would work well.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
