Hi, am hoping to install a Rolltrak Sliding Screen Door Lock on existing aluminium door frame. I need to cut holes in the aluminium frame to house the lock body & handle - what's the best way for a DIY handyperson to cut these ? I have read the instructions for this particular door lock and there are no tools suggested for this part of the task. Thanks
Hi @4evarenovating,
Thank you for your question.
Most aluminium screen doors are manufactured with the holes cut for a lock body, so they've probably overlooked this in their instructions.
I have done this once before by drilling through the aluminium at the top and bottom of the holes required for the lock, then connecting the holes with a Dremel 200-2/30 Rotary Tool, using the small cutting disc that is provided.

It is fine work, but if you mark it carefully and work slowly and accurately, you should have some success.
If you are not confident cutting the aluminium yourself, I'd suggest contacting a locksmith or carpenter who works with doors for their assistance.
Let me know what you think.
Jacob
