How to fill a large hole in the ceiling?

IMG_3259.jpeg

So I had a large hole where a lamp was removed. To fill the gap I put in some timber with glue then filled the ~10mm deep gap with filler (the diameter is ~160mm). It’s been 48 hours and it still isn’t dry. I’m thinking this was not the preferred method.

 Thoughts?

Re: How to fill a large hole in the ceiling?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @17anticsshim. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about filling a hole.

You'll be looking at a few days for the filler to harden at 10mm thick. Typically, it's best to fill in layers, so each can dry before you move onto the next. However, I think you'll be fine. Just leave it a few days, sand back anything protruding from the ceiling surface, and then apply a couple of skim coats of plaster to smooth out the area.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
