How to fix gap between floorboards and window frame?

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me please. I’ve noticed there is a small gap (few mm’s) between the edge of my wooden floorboards and a full length window frame (steel I think) in my bedroom. I noticed it because I saw a trail of ants coming in to eat a crumb. What can I do to seal this area? Thanks

Re: Gap between floorboards and window frame

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @sugarplum_mum. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about sealing a gap.

To seal the small gap between your wooden floorboards and the window frame, you can use a colour-matched silicone sealant. This is a good option as it will provide a flexible, long-lasting seal and help prevent ants from entering. Start by cleaning the area to ensure it's free from dust and debris. Apply some masking tape along the window frame and the floorboard to prevent excess silicone getting on them and to provide a neat edge when removed. Then, carefully apply the silicone along the gap, using a caulking gun for a neat, even line. Once applied, smooth the silicone with a wet finger or a tool to create a clean finish. Allow it to dry completely before testing to ensure the gap is sealed. This should help prevent any more ants from making their way in.

Here's a helpful guide: How to apply silicone sealant.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much, I’ll head to Bunnings now and pick some of the sealant up and give it a go!
