How to fix screw hole that is stripped?

Hi

The screws on my screen door are no longer attach to the wood as the holes have been stripped over years of use. I found some advice here https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Best-Advice/How-can-you-fix-a-loose-screw-in-timber/ta-p/135... which is helpful. I will get hold of some wooden dowel to glue in and screw the screws into.

I wanted to know if there is a less expensive glue than the Gorilla glue suggested? Can I use something like liquid nails?

Re: How to fix screw hole that is stripped?

Hi @MWalt,

For repairing stripped screw holes in your screen door, Gorilla Glue is generally the strongest option because it expands slightly as it cures and bonds very securely to wood, giving the dowel the best chance of holding the screw tightly over time. That said, if you’re looking for a less expensive alternative, you could try using Liquid Nails or a similar strong construction adhesive. It won’t expand like Gorilla Glue, but it should still provide enough grip for a dowel inserted into the hole.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
