Installed Siniat ceiling system but plasterer has requested a modification that requires 2 lengths of furring channel to be joined. I have not found joiners. Is there another method to join two furring channel lengths?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Joanic. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about furring channels.
It would likely be best to pick up a furring channel of the correct length instead of trying to join shorter lengths together. They go right up to 6000 mm. Alternatively, the ends could be abutted, but both lengths would need to be independently fixed to the structure with clips on either side of the joint.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thanks for your reply Mitchell. Unfortunately the span is 8 metres, hence a join is necessary. Can you suggest appropriate clips?
Hi @Joanic,
Is the length of the ceiling 8 metres, or is the span between supports 8 metres?
If the span is 8 metres between supports, then the furring channel is not adequate.
I am assuming you mean the ceiling width is 8 metres and the furring channel is supported at the correct intervals, in which case you would use a C38 Furring Channel Joiner clip, which would need to be special ordered.
It might be worth having a chat with your plasterer about what they would do in this situation. I have worked with a number of plasterers who are very experienced with ceiling framing systems. Your plasterer may be able to recommend a suitable workaround.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
