how to make this darker. its caoba, freshly done, I would like to make it to dark chocolate
Hello @Fikky
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your timber stairs darker.
Can you please tell us what exact product was used on the surface of your stairs? Perhaps we can find a similar product that can be painted over it or at least be compatible with it. If not, it will be necessary to sand the surface of the steps back to timber before applying the new stain. I propose looking at the Feast Watson 1L Gloss Chocolate Walnut Stain And Varnish if you are looking for a dark chocolate colour. As an alternative there is also Black Japan from Feast Watson if you wish to go even darker.
I also suggest visiting your local store and going to the paint department and having a look at the indoor timber stains sample board. It will give you a much better idea of what the colours look like when applied to timber.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask

the color selection is attached in the image,
Its Durian timber stain grade color: Caoba.
Primer was 1 coat Johnston's Tuntable primer, and 2 coat johnson's interior/exterior semi gloss
Hello @Fikky
I have just been in contact with the Johnstone's technical team. They have advised that the only way for you to achieve the colour you are after is to sand the stairs back to timber and get a new tintable primer. Placing another coat on top is not an option as the result will be unpredictable. In order for you get a better idea of the finish, they have suggested that you proceed to a Taubmans trade center close to your area. They will have the Johnstone's colour samples applied to timber which you can actually see.
They have also suggested to give them a call on 131686 if you wish to get more technical information.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
