How to paint a steel bracket?

Hi

We have this steel bracket thats monument colour. And are getting a black rangehood installed soon

If I have to pay this bracket to blend in with the rangehood would I need to sand all the paint off and primer + paint?

Re: How to paint a steel bracket?

Hi @PatDIY_Dad

You would need to sand the surface very well, but not back to steel especially if the paint is still in very good condition. Once sanded clean the surface with Parfix Sugar Soap Wipes to remove all the sanding dust. Allow the surface to fully dry out before spraying with primer. I suggest using White Knight Rust Guard 300g Grey SLS Etch Primer Spray Paint. You can then spray it with White Knight Rust Guard top coat. They come in various colours so please make sure to visit the store so that you can see which one suits your needs.

My best advice is to mask all the sections you don't want overpainted with newspaper and masking tape.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How To Paint Window Frames (the techniques used are applicable to your project)
