How to remove flooring transition strip?

Trying to remove a transition strip, I've not come across fixings like this before, can someone tell me the best way to remove them without using a grinder?

Hi @craftyking,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

That is a hammer in masonry anchor like these Macsim 6.5 x 40mm Zinc Plated Anchor Macdrives.

They are inserted into a pilot hole in the concrete, and the nail is driven down through the anchor, which causes the bottom to split apart and wedge itself in the hole.

If you can get a prybar underneath the head, you might be able to lever it up like you would a nail, but in my experience this can be pretty hit and miss and it really depends on how well the anchor was set in the first place.

The other option is to grab a drill and drill down through the centre of it to drill out the nail part of the system. Once the nail is no longer forcing the anchor open, you can just pull it out with some pliers.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
