Our wooden beam of the roof is cracked after climbing up.
Can I buy a temporary support for it?
Its about 3.3m above the ground.
Regards
the beam is cracked and needs replacement and temporary support.
Hi @Honest52,
It’s definitely possible to buy or hire temporary supports, but in this situation, you’re well beyond the point where a simple prop will make things safe. Props are only useful when a beam is cracked but still structurally sound. What you have there is a beam that is completely decayed, with no structural capacity left, and the roof above it is at real risk of collapsing.
You need to isolate the area immediately and make sure no one walks under that roof. Use danger tape or anything you have on hand to keep people away. Even attempting to install a prop could trigger a collapse, because the moment you touch that beam, the remaining fragments may give way.
Please treat this as an urgent safety issue. Contact a qualified tradesperson as soon as possible so they can safely shore the roof with fresh structural timber. Once it is braced properly, you can then work toward replacing the failed beam and repairing the roof. This is not a situation to leave unattended for even a short time.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
