How to tighten wobbly door handle?

Front door handle is quite wobbly - the actual handle itself. It's this one

I've taken it apart and there doesn't seem to be a way to stop the main cylinder from wobbling - I'm kind of assuming it's just worn and needs replacing. I've tightened the screws so the connection to either side is firm

Re: Any way to tighten this wobbly door handle?

Hi @minklet,

Just to confirm, two bolts go through the cutout in the door and bolt both sides together. When these are tightened, they compress the handles against the door, sandwiching it between them. There are then two screws per handle that fix them to the face of the door. Are all six fixings securely tightened? The coverplates on both handles need to be removed to access the fixings.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to tighten wobbly door handle?

Hi @minklet,

Has the door handle always been wobbly or lately become loose.

You may need to check and fiddle with the castle nut adjustment.

Cheers

Re: How to tighten wobbly door handle?

Just gradually over the last year has became quite loose, the lock button also doesn't feel like it has the same action

@MitchellMc There's only two screws, screwing the two sides together, and they are tight. The actual body of the mechanism doesn't move, but the inner part wobbles a lot

I've recorded some short videos

Re: How to tighten wobbly door handle?

Hi @minklet,

Having a look at the videos, it seems like the latch is moving.

I'd try tightening the screws that attach the latch to the face of the door.

This may help to stop some of that movement of the latch.

If this doesn't fix the issue, could you remove the latch and assemble the lock outside of the door?

I suspect the issue probably lies with where the latch connects to the lock body.

Some slack or a slightly bent piece could allow for this movement.

Let me know what you find.

Re: How to tighten wobbly door handle?

The latch is 100% screwed into the door as tightly as possible. I've taken it apart and put it together outside of the door, and it's no different

The tube that the handle attaches to, both of those (inside and outside) are wobbly

I don't see anything else I can adjust. I also know that this isn't the normal functioning because all the rest of the building uses these same door handles, and they're nothing like as wobbly.

Re: How to tighten wobbly door handle?

Hi @minklet,

Looking through the installation instructions, I can't really see anything else that can be adjusted.

The castle nut that Alan mentioned can be adjusted, but if it is wobbly outside of the door, then I doubt it is really going to do anything.

Unfortunately, the internal components may have just worn down over time, which would mean your best option is to replace the door handle.

Luckily, it should just be a simple case of swapping the door handle out for the new one as all the holes are in place ready to go.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist.
