How to fix gap in floor between bath and basin?

Greetings All,

Regarding how to apply a fix to the issue as pictured and explained below, I seek some options to remedy the situation. TIA  sorry for the average pics

Shown here is the gap between bath and basin. A wooden skirt is somewhat affixed, the tiles abruptly end and do not continue under the vanity, hence the floorboards are visible.

It’s the same the other side between vanity and wall.

I’m unsure why tiling is not complete.

The vanity is plumbed, sitting on silicone, and screwed to wall,

I’d appreciate some thoughts and solutions please.

Current ideas includes as follows,  I know there’s a balance between involvement and results.

1. Replace skirting strip, with sealant applied. Access is limiting to ensure a decent job.

2. Add an infill piece that slopes from rearmost to front to allow drainage. Again access limited but could probably paint something or pipe a bead and smooth with long paddle.

3. Yep should be first, but to limit involvement, is to remove vanity, tile over floorboards, replace vanity.

4. The tiler would have known the above fix, or maybe only so many tiles were available, lol.

5. Quick n easy ? Spray on caravan roof sealant and watch it puddle in an uncleanable recess is not really feasible I suppose.

Appreciate the help and suggestions, support etc.

A balance of the above ideas may be ideal, but maybe there’s a trick to this I haven’t seen…

Cheers

Re: How to fix gap in floor between bath and basin?

Hello @L33

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about the gap between your bath and basin.

I recommend going with your second suggestion of adding an infill piece to cover the gaps. It will involve a bit of trial and error as the gap might not have a uniform size. But by covering the gap you won't have to worry about things falling into it and it does not become a dust trap.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Evening @L33

 Welcome to the Bunnings Community  Its a Good Friday question for sure! Also one of the best places to figure out ways forward.

I do like @EricL Spacer Idea/your infill idea. I was thinking about a waterproof material meant for the bathroom such as Kaboodle Gloss White Wall End Panel There are different sizes available, Something that will give you a gloss edge. This is what you attach bath side to the cabinets to slip down between the tub and cabinet itself. You can screw through from the inside into the sheets to secure. (you could also use BGC Fibre Cement 2450 x 1200 x 9mm Durascape Fibre Cement Sheet  instead without the gloss edging and liquid nail it to the cabinet)

Once you have attached either material then you could tile that to your hearts content. It should be far enough in relife to have the tile over the edge of the bathtub so any splashes that hit will run down the surface and then onto the edge of the tub.

The reason I am suggesting the gloss end piece is mainly to hide the lower gap of the cupboard to bathtub. The Fibe cement could be used right up to an edge if you didnt want to go that way.

Will see if I can come up with some other ideas

Re: How to fix gap in floor between bath and basin?

Hi Eric,

Appreciate the prompt reply thank you.

it comes down to materials to use on option 2 as yes width may fluctuate if not square and laminate panels may need to be custom.

so suggestions on what panel to use, if painted and etc will be helpful in that regard. I won’t be intentionally getting wet, so to subdue expansion and the likes of a lasting fix I’ll go with the best ideas.

Cheers

Re: How to fix gap in floor between bath and basin?

Hi @L33

I agree with @Dave-1's recommendation, just to add to the suggestions made I propose using pine painted on both sides and then covered with Fiber Cement at the top and tiled over. This will give you the best possible cover for the gap.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
