Hi,
I'd like to refresh the look of my shower frame. It's made of aluminum, and I'm hoping to have it painted black. Could you advise on the steps I should follow to do this properly, and which products you'd recommend?
Given that the frame is inside the shower and constantly exposed to water and humidity, I assume it will require specific materials to ensure durability and a long-lasting finish.
Thanks in advance!
Ester
Hello @esterfvinas
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting your aluminium shower frame.
Painting the aluminium frame itself is actually relatively straight forward. But the question is about longevity and suitability of ordinary spray paint being used in a high moisture area. I'm currently unaware of a paint product that can withstand repeated exposure to hot temperatures and heavy moisture. Paint when exposed to these types of conditions do not last long and start to breakdown in a short amount of time.
But if you are curious how the frame is painted, I suggest having a look at this guide - How To Paint Window Frames. The techniques used are applicable to the shower frame.
In conclusion painting the frame is a great idea but just keep in mind that it might not last long and you'll need to touch up or repair the paint quite often.
