How to remove and patch towel rack in tiles?

IMG_6941.jpeg

Hi team,

I’m planning to paint our bathroom tiles and would like to remove this towel rack beforehand. Completely remove and have it just blend in with the tiles (as much as possible).

Any suggestions on process or examples of finished jobs?

p.s thoughts on painting tiles 🤣🫣

Cheers in advance!

Re: Towel rack in tiles removal and patch.

Hi @joelharrisonau,

You can see that the tiles have been cut around the towel rail, which tells me this is an adhesive-mounted rail.

If you were to remove this towel rail, then you would be left with two large cut-outs in the tiles.

You could try using a filler product to conceal them, but I imagine it would be fairly obvious even after painting. You could maybe try something like this Selleys Knead It Multi Purpose Epoxy Putty to fill the hole, sand it smooth and then paint over the top with your tile paint.

If you could bear to leave the towel rail in place, I think it would look fine if you just taped it off and painted around it. Obviously, the choice is yours, but I think the patches would likely stand out.

Check out How To Paint Tiles and Painting Bathroom Tiles With Dulux for some examples of tile painting and the process.

I think it is a great way to give your bathroom a fresh new look without the heavy cost of removing and replacing the tiles.

Let me know what you think.

Jacob
