I have an old caroma 230 toilet cistern. I’m sure the seating washer is worn out. How do I remove the outlet valve without breaking it. Worst case scenario, what new cistern would be a compatible replacement?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Zampits. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about outlet valves.
Those Caroma 230 outlet valves usually just pull straight upwards, but there’s often a clip that needs to be released first. Check near the bottom where the outlet valve connects to the base of the cistern, or along the runners moulded into the sides. If it doesn’t lift with minimal force, look for any retaining clips that might be holding it in place. Once the top section is free, you may need to quarter-turn the lower section at the bottom to fully release the outlet valve and access the seating washer.
Because this isn’t a close-coupled system, most other cisterns should fit, but your current unit sits significantly higher than the pan, so a replacement might require adjusting the wall mounting. You can find budget-friendly cisterns if you just want a like-for-like replacement, but given the age of your system, it could be worth considering upgrading the whole toilet suite, as the cost might be similar and installation could be easier. We also offer a Toilet Installation service that you might like to take advantage of.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell,
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I managed to remove the outlet valve and replaced the seating washer and that has solved the problem.
Best regards
