glue tile for shower stainless steel drain cover?

Happy New Year 2026!!!

We have now grouted the base of our shower - looking good so far.

We have removed the cracked tiles from the stainless steel drain cover and wondering what glue would be used to stick the new tiles to the cover?

Thank you.

Re: glue tile for shower stainless steel drain cover?

Happy New Year to you too @BEALE, and great to hear the shower base is looking good so far.

If you can, it would really help to see a couple of clear photos of the top of the stainless steel drain cover so we can better understand exactly what surface you’re working with and how the tiles sit on it. That will make the advice much more accurate.

In general, if the stainless steel cover already has some texture or grip to it, a flexible polyurethane adhesive like Sikaflex 11FC should work well for bonding tiles to stainless steel. It has good adhesion, stays slightly flexible, and copes well with moisture, which makes it suitable for a shower environment. If the surface of the drain cover is very smooth or polished, it’s a good idea to lightly rough it up first with around 80 grit sandpaper. You’re not trying to remove material, just key the surface so the adhesive has something to bite into.

Once the surface is prepped, clean it thoroughly to remove any dust or residue before applying the adhesive. Share some photos when you can and we can confirm you’re on the right track or tweak the approach if needed.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
