How do I install the heavy bag?
Hello @SPP
Thank you for sharing your question about how to hang your boxing bag. Did your boxing bag come with a weight rated carabiner? Did it include a timber mounting anchor? If this is a new bag I propose speaking to the supplier and asking them about the necessary parts for your bag.
The timber beams in your house have been designed to carry a static load which includes the flooring. Adding a boxing bag will now introduce an extra element which is a dynamic load where extreme forces from punches and kicks will now be applied to the bag which will then transfer to the beam which was not designed to handle these extra loads. There have been a number of discussions in regards to this and we have suggested quite a number of possible solutions.
For your installation I propose adding an independent reinforced beam to accommodate your boxing bag. I propose engaging the services of a builder to assess the spot you are trying to install to and asking them if the structure can withstand the forces being generated by the bag. Another option is to use a Boxing Punching Bag Rack so that the foundation of your house is not affected in any way.
Here are some discussions about hanging punching bags that might help:
