How easy is Bunnings adjustable gate to install?

Hi

Im hoping to erect a gate on the back of my carport. I’ve see the Bunnings adjustable gate system. Is it easy to set it up?

Re: Gate

Hello @philbyone

Thanks for sharing your question about installing a gate on your carport. Aside from the photo can you please tell us which adjustable gate system you were going to use? Once we see the photo and gate set you'll be using, we can provide recommendations on how to move forward.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Gate

Hi, thanks for your reply. The one I’ve looked at is Rapid Fence. It is to be placed on back of carport. I will try to send photos.

Re: Gate

Hi @philbyone,

Thank you for sending those photos through. They are a great help.

Selecting gates that are appropriate for the opening will be the main thing we have to get right. From there, it is just a matter of mounting them and adding hardware to ensure they stay where they are supposed to.

How wide is the gap between the carport post and the brick wall?

Can you send a link to the specific gate you were looking at?

RapidFence have a wide variety of styles, so knowing which one you are thinking of using will help us offer specific advice on that type of gate.

At present, the carport post looks like a logical place to attach a gate, but if you needed to use a dual gate, you would have to mount a post to the brick on the opposite side of the opening, so you have something to attach your gate to. This would be relatively simple using a pine post and some masonry anchors.

If you were using dual gates, you would need to put some holes in the brick pavers and add drop bolts to keep the gates in place.

I will assist further when you can get back to us.

The gap between brick and car-port post is 2.8meters the brick wall and the outside of the carport post are aligned. I’m thinking of two swinging gates big one on brick side. I have sent you a photo of Bunnings rapid fence we looked at. By the way does everyone see this info I’m sending you or just you?

Re: Gate

Hi @philbyone,

Whatever you post in the discussion can be seen by anyone who visits the site, so keep your privacy in mind when posting. If you have any issues, feel free to send an email to workshop@bunnings.com.au or send a PM to one of the Workshop team, and we can help out.

A combination of the RapidFence 1800 x 1870mm Gate Frame Kit and RapidFence 1200 x 1870mm Gate Frame Kit should be perfect.

As I mentioned, you will have to mount a post to the brick side of the opening, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Once that post is in place, you'd just adjust the gate frames to the desired size, screw the hinges to the posts, and then attach palings using metal screws

Once the palings are in place, you would attach the drop bolts I mentioned and attach a suitable gate latch.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
