So I’m in the market for some security cameras, the whole shebang in one go would be ideal; door cam + chime, outdoor cam (atleast one with pan/tilt, preferably 2) and a single indoor that I can still utilise in the outdoor patio where there’s zero chance of getting wet.
Anyway I’m interested in the new range of cams as they look much more refined than the previous range, as they do with their whole catalog of products to be fair, but I’ve come across this solar powered / rechargeable lithium 9200mAh battery and have some queries/concerns…
Firstly, why does this appear to be presented as an outdoor security cam, IP65 rating, outdoor mounting in images ect. And yet the bunnings specs list it as Outdoor: No, Indoor: Yes,
Furthermore, (and this is purely my opinion)the 4G LTE being the standalone connectivity option isn’t abundantly obvious and should be given each and every prior grid connect product requires wifi and bluetooth for bluetooth hub devices. Just an observation as someone previously reviewed and mentioned this fact as he bought it unaware of the lack of wifi connectivity option. Personally it’s a long overdue upgrade but I would expect wifi to still at least be an option, pretty good way to pigeon hole your product using a stand alone connection option external to wifi, especially after grilling into us all the necessity for 2.4ghz 5000 square m coverage. This is particularly disappointing for me personally as I’m not going to buy and keep on top of another sim card, and on top of that I’ve just upgraded to a higher end mesh setup for whole house coverage literally just for the grid connect devices I have around the house, to which there are not that many compared to heavier users, so a fairly large outlay of cash and then to lose out on the only solar “outdoor” option is pretty lack. As I said mostly opinion and perhaps suggestion {for real when oh when do we finaly get ethernet capability so we can get some actual good quality no laggy nonsense connection 🤔}.
I digress, my question would be what does the warranty cover if the camera is installed outdoors, where it will be exposed to the elements? I understand the likelihood of an iP65 device is pretty well sorted in a storm ect. Just covering bases that Bunnings seem to suggest otherwise in their specifications.
And if anyone can shed some light on the 9200mAh battery life over the course of a day with non frequent traffic and of course the bump in with solar. This being a broad question/discussion point more than anything.
From someone who has installed several DIY security systems both at home and abroad few friends etc, I would research the FB user groups on any of the brands and models you're considering. End-users are the best in my opinion to get real information across all the areas you're asking about. Obviously these groups do have their dills providing useless comments, but generally it's a pretty good start.
