Hi awesome people , I am wanting to paint my garage gates and window roller shutter and wanted to know if this is something I could do with a nap roller and if the finish with a nap roller will be good ,and what I’ll need to do by way of prep .
i am not confident with spray painting plus there is the headache of extensive taping so am not keen going down that road .
Hello @Mark270481
Thanks for sharing your question about painting your garage gate and window shutters. I suggest having a look at these discussions - How to paint a metal garage door? by @Alfandari and Solved: How to paint a metal garage door? by @Gunna. There are some very good recommendations on how to paint metal doors and covers in the discussion. My only worry with painting your panels is that the sides of the panels will be scrapping over the side channels which will scratch the paint off. There is no way to prevent this and the original colour of your gate and shutters will be seen.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Remarka6le and @Nailbag for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @Mark270481
I have only ever used spray cans on a metal security shutter as I could get a feel for when they are about to run out and stop before they start to splatter. And yes there was a fair bit of prep required using tape and newspaper to sheild the sides and rear glass.
I do have a spray-gun, but I only use it for water-based paints typically for timber fence type projects.
